We looked at an apartment near this subway station a few weeks ago. This is a kiosk on the platform. It’s difficult to see, but there’s a ledger, an old-style computer monitor, an intercom, and a broom, among other things. Everything is covered with grime. This station was closed for months after 9/11 - it appears as though the MTA just decided not to clean it up. Creepy.

I wonder what’s in the Ledger?

Pretty cool, looks like they just forgot it existed.

When I was in NYC, we took that station to get somewhere. (I think it was to NYU) During the weekday, it’s eerily empty.

Is that the Broadway and Wall station?

Surely not a train schedule, because there barely is one .... Every year it gets more expensive - and slower, and more crowded, and more unreliable.

9/10/01: Man, I love Kazaa. I can download all of my favorite Dido and Destiny’s Child songs for free! I can’t wait until my vacation to Paris. Can’t forget to bring full sized shampoo and hair gel in my carry-on just in case they don’t have what I need in France. You know, people used to think the French were rude but I think their attitudes towards the USA are changing. I think George W. Bush is really helping international relations now that he’s president. I think he will go down in history as one of our best diplomats.

At William . Two short blocks to Broadway.
Fun fact - the building we were looking at (decided against it) has an attached restaurant, and if you buy an apartment, free breakfast 5 days a week. How great would that have been?

Hah, that’s like the bus system in the city I grew up in. And they would wonder why ridership was down every year. Ha.

Man, I would have gotten sooo fat.

And it looks like a fairly high-end place, so how could you say no?

I guess you found a way, though.

A couple things: 1) living rooms are too small (newly renovated units), 2) if there’s another Sandy, we’re sure to get evacuated downtown, 3) we’d really like to stay on the Upper West Side (and well above sea level).

All perfectly valid reasons. Free breakfast every day would be cool though.

Staying above 14th Street offers lots of benefits, including the electricity probabably staying on during a major storm.

Go back and say “throw is free weekend evening meals and we’ll take it”.

I’d abuse that.

Seriously - I would have gone for the apartment had she decided thumbs up. But LR too small, she says, so it’s back to the ol’ drawing board.

It makes for a quiet life to listen to SWMBO (She Who Must Be Obeyed).

As I have often said - I lose the battles and the war. Because if she’s not happy, I’m in for it.

Haven’t been down there since then, and no plans to go. But if I wind up down there, I’ll post something.
